The worry about fitting in and looking right can lead to a teenager having a negative view of themselves. This pressure to fit in can take a negative toll on their self-esteem.
Research has found that peers play a part in how an individual views themselves. If someone is surrounded by peers that make them feel self-conscious or unattractive then it will have a negative effect on that person's self-esteem.
Teenagers are constantly comparing themselves to those around them, in a lot of cases they don't just compare themselves to celebrities and people in the media, they also compare themselves to their peers and other individuals in society.
