Body image is your thoughts and feelings about the way your body looks, it is how you view yourself when you look in the mirror or picture yourself in your mind.

What is body image?

A female's self-esteem is strongly related

to how she views her body shape than

how much she actually weighs.

Teenage girls are constantly surrounded by images of what the "ideal" body shape is supposed to be. In America research shows that 53% of 13 year old girls are "unhappy" with their bodies, at age 17 the amount increases to 78%. A lot of things can influence a girl's self esteem puberty and development, friends and family, and the media. Any of these factors may make a girl think that she is 'not good enough' or 'inadequate' in some ways. Many will avoid normal daily activities when they feel bad about the way they look.
